Our first full day in Porto Santo started a with cooler weather than we had experienced a year ago. So, we skipped the typical post-breakfast trip to the beach, and instead, the kids, Gee Gee, and I took a stroll into the city center. Amanda stayed at the house to get some extra rest in an effort to fight her cold.

Eilidh had a few bites of an apple for breakfast.

Noah had at least one piece of toast; Eilidh had at least one bite.

The kids all did a little coloring after breakfast while the adults were getting ready.

The girls love posing with flowers. Emmie is conscientious about picking up petals that have fallen, as opposed to taking them from flower pots along our stroll.

Gee Gee perused a handful of the town’s modest storefronts along our stroll and around the city center. We stopped at a bakery to introduce Gee Gee to Porto Santo’s well-liked creme-filled, sugary donuts. The kids convinced me to buy them hot dogs at a food stand, where Eilidh and I shared a bag of Ketchup-flavored Ruffles. After a stop at the playground and walk along the pier, we made one final eating stop for some Nutella-topped bread, then took a taxi back to our Porto Santo home.

Eilidh preferred to hold the bag of Ruffles.

We left Eilidh’s brand new sippy cup, seen in this photo, at our table adjacent to the food truck. I returned to the city center to retrieve it later in the evening.

Eilidh enjoyed her warm bread topped with Nutella.

A decent crowd had gathered in the city center to watch Portugal’s World Cup soccer game vs. Morocco. They won 1-0.

Noah and Emmie posed on the pier…

…somewhat like a photo taken July 2, 2017, during our previous visit.

The kids had already eaten, but I grabbed some food from our go-to takeaway place, located a short walk from our home. The adults had some dinner, then it was off to the beach for Amanda, Noah, Emmie, Eilidh, and Gee Gee, while I took an afternoon rest. When the crew returned, Emmie had not wanted to leave, so I accompanied her for some more afternoon beach time.

The kids posed with their sand toys before visiting the beach.

During our trip last year, Noah and I twice walked to Restaurante Vila Alencastre and were pleased with our dinner. He wanted another “date night” for our 2018 Porto Santo vacation; this time Amanda joined us while Gee Gee stayed back with the girls.

Before dinner, Amanda and Noah snuggled in the hammock.

Noah and I both had our favorites from last year’s meals. Noah ordered the ham and cheese omelet.

I had my go-to scabbardfish topped with banana.

Amanda also ordered the scabbardfish… but with garlic sauce.

After dinner, Amanda and Noah returned to our house, while I walked back to the city center in search of the missing sippy cup. Fortunately, the food truck proprietors had kept it safe, and it was able to be reunited with Eilidh. I hung around the city center a bit for a business call and had my first taste of Lamebcas Ice Cream, which we apparently overlooked during our trip a year ago. This would turn into the first of several stops during our stay on the island, as their frequently-rotating set of unique soft serve flavors had me completely intrigued.

Not to be left out, Emmie got some cuddles with mommy before bedtime.

Strawberry and banana… or some appealing mix of fruit-flavored soft serve.
