Getting to the Louvre on a Friday evening proved a bit stressful, as the Paris Metro system was jam-packed. The 4 train we boarded by our apartment grew more crowded as we approached the city center, and we momentarily found ourselves in a crush of people as we made our way from the subway to the street level. Fortunately, once we exited the crowds were drastically smaller, and after a string of outdoor photos we entered the Louvre pretty quickly.
Like many tourists, we started our visit in search of the Mona Lisa, meandering through rooms en route to the museum’s most famous painting. We snapped various photos and selfies then worked our way through rooms filled with jewels, intricately-painted ceilings, Egyptian antiquities, and the 2,000-year-old Venus de Milo statue. The variety was impressive, and we only visited a tiny percentage of the expansive museum during our two-hour visit.

Emmie took a few photos to share with her class.

Eilidh was pretty tired by the end of our visit.
The return subway trip was far less stressful, and the older kids and I ended the night with a trip to the nearest McDonald’s and Monoprix grocery store.

Macaroons are on the menu in French McDonald’s restaurants.

Noah opted for a more standard order consisting of a bacon cheeseburger and Coke.

Eilidh thoroughly enjoyed her middle-of-the-night snack, consisting of cheese, blueberries, and a piece of Belgian candy.
