After we dropped Amanda and Emmie off at the Denver Airport for their flight back to Des Moines, Noah and I began the first day of our drive back, with Junction City, Kansas, as the destination.
Along the fairly desolate Highway 36, we stopped by the High Plains Raceway where drivers were practicing on the track. Noah enjoyed watching the “funny cars” for a good 15 minutes. He was sleeping not long after, with our next planned stop in Burlington, Colorado, home of the Kit Carson County Antique Carousel.

The animals in the carousel featured the original paint!
At a cost of just 25 cents per person, Noah had fun on the ride. After taking forever to eat his nachos and cheese, Noah was disappointed we couldn’t ride any other carnival rides at the fairgrounds, as they were not open until the evening.
A stop at the first Kansas Welcome Center off I-70 allowed an opportunity to research if any county fairs were happening on our way to Junction City. I determined the Lincoln County fair in Sylvan Grove was most accessible, located about 14 miles northeast of I-70 and just 90 minutes west of our final destination.

Big smiles on the little roller coaster.
Noah rode three rides at the Lincoln County Fair, including his favorite of the batch, a mini-roller coaster. We arrived at Junction City around 10:00 p.m.
