For the third time in four years, we rounded up the kids and drove northwest to the Marshall County town of Melbourne for their annual Mousehole Days parade. The weekend-long celebration draws most of the town’s 830 residents plus visitors from all across central Iowa like ourselves.

Given his constant waving, Noah’s shirt suited him well.
While we’ve previously stayed for lunch, barrel trains, and inflatables, this year we focused on the parade. We found our usual spot along Main Street and the kids were quickly ready to wave at every passing vehicle seeking candy.

Emmie occasionally took a break, holding her candy tight throughout.
After the parade, we made the short jaunt north to Marshalltown for lunch, where we eschewed our usual local jaunts in favor of the town’s Taco John’s. The kids enjoyed potato oles and we enjoyed meat and potato burritos, but we were all ready to head home by the time our meal was complete.

The only complaint about an otherwise lovely (and efficient) Taco John’s was the lack of high chairs.
