The eleventh and final day of our Canadian adventure is in the books, with our return to the states consisting of flights from Halifax to Toronto to Kansas City, followed the three-hour drive to our home in central Iowa. While the weather occasionally didn’t cooperate, the trip has largely gone as well as expected and hoped. A few notes with each day’s posts are below.

Part 1 – Nova Scotia
We spent the first three nights in the province’s capital city of Halifax, with highlights including The Citadel and Peggy’s Cove.

Part 2 – Prince Edward Island
We did more driving than expected and encountered a little more rain than hoped, but our time in Canada’s smallest province included a few of our favorite trip activities, like the deep sea fishing boat ride which departed from Georgetown.

Part 3 – New Brunswick
We spent less than 24 hours in New Brunswick, visiting the capital city of Moncton and the iconic Hopewell Rocks.

Day 11 – The Return
The final day of our Canadian journey started extremely early with everyone up in time to be in the hotel lobby to catch the 3:30 a.m. shuttle to the Halifax Airport. Our flight wasn’t until two hours later, but the extra time at the airport was worthwhile as the Air Canada checked bag process was once again cumbersome.

Two car seats, and a third of our other bags, accompany Emmie in our hotel lobby.

The flight to Toronto was full, so we took the gate agents up on the offer to check our largest bags to their final destination: the Kansas City International Airport. Both flights were smooth for all travelers, and as one small benefit of traveling with a baby, we were able to move to the front of the customs and security lines in Toronto. We managed only three stops among the three hour drive back to Iowa, arriving home around 2:30 in the afternoon.

While we missed a few restaurants and shops on our itinerary, we visited every key attraction on the list, from Peggy’s Cove in Nova Scotia to multiple beaches in Prince Edward Island to Hopewell Rocks in New Brunswick.
