In 2017 and 2018, our international trips included overnights in New York City, where we’ve gotten to sprinkle in activities like the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, a Hal Ketchum concert, and hanging out with our friends Caley and Caleb and their family. This trip was a bit different as our friends were visiting their families in Missouri, so we were able to stay at their place for a few nights to experience the city more like a local.
All things considered, our drive from LEGOLAND to the City was pretty uneventful, though we dealt with a bit of Manhattan traffic as we worked our way across the Ed Koch Queensboro Bridge into Long Island City. While we had several things on our NYC agenda, we were planning to rely on Uber and public transportation to get around. I was happy to get our van parked in the garage and take a few days off from driving.

In addition to a place to stay, we had a spot in the building’s parking garage, making it easy to stow our van while we explored the city.
Once we were mostly unpacked, Noah and I walked down the street for a dinner date at Sweet Chick. He had a waffle, while I had their classic chicken and waffles combo. We then meandered to Chinelos Birria Tacos food truck, which I’d read about prior to our visit, where we picked up some tacos to take back to Amanda for dinner.

It was a pleasant night to dine outside at Sweet Chick in Long Island City.
Though the girls were happy to play with the Lewis family toy collection, I convinced them to walk around the neighborhood and take them on their own dinner date. We snapped a few photos with Manhattan in the background before they enjoyed waffles from a neighborhood food truck. Our evening ended with an abbreviated visit to the nearest park, making the most of the final few minutes of sunlight.

Eilidh loved pressing the elevator buttons at our building!
