Our final day in New York City started with laundry duty, as we wanted to wash the sheets we’d used before the Lewis family returned to their place tomorrow. We had final Long Island City lunches from Petey’s Burger and Amanda’s new favorite taco truck then hopped in another Uber to go to the Brooklyn Cat Cafe, our only scheduled activity for the day.

Eilidh assisted with laundry duties.

Emmie (and Nola) and I had visited a couple of years ago and enjoyed the experience. Everyone managed to find at least a couple of kitties they enjoyed hanging out with and our allotted time went by pretty quickly. After a failed attempt to find some ice cream, we waited for an Uber back to Long Island City, where we packed up the van for our drive to Washington D.C.

Arnold Palmer was a favorite for the kids and adults alike.

Leaving New York City could not have gone smoother. Before we knew it, we’d breezed through Manhattan and the Lincoln Tunnel and were in New Jersey for our drive south. We broke up our trip with stops at Shake Shack in Delaware and a Wawa convenience store near Baltimore. Parking was a bit of a headache in D.C., but we found a spot for the van and managed to have the kids asleep by 11:00.

Once the kids were mostly asleep, I walked a few blocks for a late-night gelato treat.
