My weeklong work trip to New York in June 2012 included a few notable stops, starting with Monday night’s trip to the famous Katz Delicatessen in the Lower East Village. Matt, Nicole, and I took the subway to the cash-only restaurant, where we purchased the famous pastrami sandwiches.

While the meal was somewhat underwhelming, I learned Katz’ was the site of a notable scene in When Harry Met Sally, a movie which proved to be entertaining when Amanda and I later watched.

Day two of the trip included an evening trip to Citi Field, where I logged my first Mets game, becoming the first family member to visit the Queens stadium. Baltimore defeated the Mets, 5-0.

Wednesday night featured a group dinner at Dos Caminos in midtown Manhattan, while I used the free time Thursday evening to take the long MTA ride to Brooklyn to check out the original Nathan’s location and visit my first short season A game, the Staten Island Yankees at the Brooklyn Cyclones.

Before going to the game, I sought out Empire Mayonnaise, a small specialty shop in Brooklyn. The worker was friendly, mayonnaise samples were good, but given airplane carry-on restrictions, I was hesitant to make any in-store purchases.
