Day two in Colorado started with grand plans to drive to Mount Evans along the highest paved road in North America. Not only was the road closed for a biking event, but the town of Idaho Springs (our lunch spot) was overwhelmed with foot and car traffic from the local brewer’s annual festival.
We did find a parking space and were able to eat at Beau Jo’s Pizza, which featured a fun atmosphere but generally underwhelming food. Our order consisted of a “mountain style” (thick crust) pizza with ham and pineapple and a “prairie style” pie with BBQ chicken. The thin crust toppings left something to be desired, while the thick pizza’s crust did not live up to the standard set by Great Plains in Ames.
We drove along a busy Interstate 70, exiting to Highway 6 and the Loveland Pass. A break in the scenic drive occurred at the Continental Divide, where we took a few photos and did some mild hiking with the kids.

Along the Loveland Pass we stopped in Georgetown for ice cream (and a Christmas ornament) before returning to Denver via the Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel.
The turnaround at the hotel was brief, just a quick run to the room for the Rockies tickets. While we arrived at the stadium more than 15 minutes before the game, we had to park fairly far away and rely on a shuttle bus to take us to the stadium.

Noah’s second major league game.
Noah had Dippin’ Dots. Amanda had a salad. I had a burger from the Todd Helton #17 Burger and Shake stand behind left field. (It was a good ballpark burger, but pricey at $14 for the with-drink meal. Emmie slept during my complete trip around the concourse. Our seat neighbors suggested visiting the North Pole and Cheyenne Mountain Zoo while in Colorado Springs.
